Dear families,
Welcome back!
We hope that you’ve had a wonderful summer and that your children have come home happy. A special welcome to our new children and their families; we are really looking forward to getting to know you all in the coming months. Please get in touch if there is anything at all that you are unsure about. Lots of exciting changes have happened at Woodlea over the holidays. Our fantastic staff team have been working hard to plan an exciting term of learning and enrichment events, develop classrooms and outdoor areas and organise lots of new books and other curriculum resources. Our FOWs forest school shelter has been installed on the field and you will also notice new signage with our Felix Fox logo and new fencing appearing around the site. We also have a new permanent Governing Body made up of parents, staff, members of the local community and Trust.
Class Welcome Meetings
As you will see on the Upcoming Dates page of the newsletter, classes in Y1 -6 have Welcome Meetings coming up (YR had theirs in July). These are a chance to meet your child’s teacher, hear about the curriculum, class routines, home learning and to ask any general questions. The presentation slides and curriculum overview document will also be emailed, so that anyone unable to attend will have the same information. Please sign in at the school entrance straight after school. If you have any questions relating to your child specifically, please make an appointment to see your child’s new teacher via the school office.
Reading and maths developments
In line with other schools in our Trust, we have moved to a new phonics reading scheme for children in YR-2 this year, called Little Wandle. Linked to this we have new reading texts for children in Y3-6 and will also be introducing a new way of recording what children have read at home, with an online reading record called Boom Reader. More will be explained about all of these changes in class welcome meetings and our phonics workshop (see dates list). We have also chosen new inspirational texts for our Guided Reading lessons. Following on from the success of our maths tutoring last term in KS2, we are now extending this to all children in KS2, which will be happening within the school day. We will also be giving children access to the tutoring as part of their home learning.
Clubs
We have lots of new exciting clubs running this term. Please see the Clubs page in this newsletter for more details of how to book.
Goodbye Mrs Pearson
Mrs Pearson, is moving to a new role this term. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank her for all that she has done to support Woodlea and wish her good luck in her new job.
We hope that you all have a lovely weekend!
